A Spiritual Instruction from Ayatollah Bahjat

Issued in Rabī‘ al-Thānī, 1420 AH, Mashhad, Iran

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-Merciful
All praises belong to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, and blessings be on the leader of the Messengers and Prophets and on his progeny, the leaders of the pure successors, and on all the infallibles, and continuous curses be on all their enemies.
A group of people seeks advice and counsel from this nondescript. If it is desired that we speak and they listen, and once again at another time, we speak and they listen, then it is not hidden from those who know that this insignificant being is incapable of doing so. And if they say that they want a word that would be the ‘mother of all words’ and suffice for absolute prosperity in both worlds, then Allah is capable of bringing out such a word from the words of this insignificant being and make it reach you.
The purpose of creation is servitude:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ [٥١:٥٦]
“Wa mā khalaqtu al-jinna wa al-insa illā li ya‘budūn.”
“I did not create the jinn and the humans except that they may worship Me.” [51:56]

And the reality of servitude is abstinence from committing sins in beliefs, which are the acts of the heart, and in the physical acts. And abstinence from sins is not achieved to the point where it becomes one’s second nature, except through constant self-watchfulness and remembrance of Allah in all states, times and places, whilst alone and in public: “And I do not say Subhan Allah and Alhamdu lillah, rather, it is the remembrance of Allah before his obligations and prohibitions.”
We love the Imam of the time, may Allah hasten his reappearance, because he is like the queen bee. All our affairs reach us through him without exceptions, and the Messenger, peace be upon him and his family, has appointed him as our leader, and we love the Messenger because Allah has established him as the intermediary between us and Him, and we love Allah because He is the source of all good and the existence of contingent beings is His grace. Thus, if we like ourselves, and perfection for ourselves, we must befriend Allah, and if we are His friend, we must befriend the intermediaries of His Grace from the prophets and successors, or else, we either do not love our own selves, or we do not love the Bestower of Gifs, or we do not love the intermediaries of His Grace.
Thus, the elixir of prosperity is the remembrance of Allah, and He is the mover of our body parts towards the causes of absolute prosperity. Seeking intercession of the intermediaries is benefitting from the source of all good, through intermediaries appointed by Himself. We must follow their guidance and step on their footsteps under their leadership in order to become successful.
Do not seek further explanation, record that which was said, and embed it in your hearts and it will be self-explanatory. If you ask why I do not act upon this myself, we will say, “If it was decided that we must say that we act in accordance to all that we know, perhaps we would not have become ready for being present and this discourse.” However, the instruction is the spreading of blessings, and perhaps it may be in accordance with what is desired, “Allah has not made it obligatory on the servants to learn till He has made it obligatory on the learned to teach.”
Let it also be known that if it becomes possible for anybody, practical counsel is greater than verbal counsel is, “Be the callers towards Allah without your tongues.”
May Allah help you and us succeed in that which pleases Him and may He keep us away from all that which earns His wrath. Peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you. All praises belong to Allah, in the beginning and end. Blessings be on Mohammad and his pure progeny and curses be on all their enemies.
